I went to a job interview at a magazine. The Editor in Chief greeted me at her home office with her barking dog nipping at my ankles. She made me pick up the dog to calm it down then the dog proceeded to jump on me all throughout the interview. By the time the interview ended, I had dog hair all over my black suit, but at least the dog had finally calmed down. Or so I thought. The Editor asked me to attend a meeting with her, and when we got up to leave, the dog chased me and bit me. The Editor responded by saying the dog had prior abandonment issues! In the cab ride to the meeting, the dog was standing on my arm while the Editor was on her cell phone. I was scared to move. I thought the dog might bite me again!
Against my better judgment, I took the job at the magazine and quickly realized what a mistake it was. The dog was the boss of the office. The dog had his own email address, and I received numerous emails from the dog throughout the day with paw prints attached. (I was allowed to work from home). The Editor had ADD so she often forgot what she told me to do, often changed her mind about my job responsibilities, therefore I never got any work done. They made me leave the office once when I was sick because her co-worker said the dog and the owner “couldn’t afford to get sick”! Needless to say, I quit after two weeks. Craziness! |
